CNC Laser Cutter

I recently designed and built a CNC laser cutter. The main components are sourced from laser engravers, 3D Printers, and general purpose hardware and electronics. I have been experimenting with a few various software solutions for controlling the cutter, including EleksCAM and Inkscape.

The Laser Cutter makes use of 4 stepper motors, providing 3 axis control, a 5W adjustable laser, and EleksMaker 3 axis controller. The system has been designed to be an inexpensive alternative to cutting acrylic by doing multi-passes and adjusting the height of the laser with every cut in order to re-focus the laser beam. This allows to reduce the most expensive component of an laser cutter- the laser. This machine has the cutting capability of 60-150W lasers with the addition of it's extra stepper. The biggest compromise is the increased cut time required for extra passes.
